Eyes Set To Kill Celebrate Broken Frames at Tucson’s Historic The Rock
(by Shay Smith)
On December 14th, metalcore veterans Eyes Set To Kill descended upon Tucson’s historic music venue, The Rock. A room that has hosted legendary acts such as Korn, Goo Goo Dolls, and Nirvana, plus many also may remember it not for a performance, but it being where we lost Lil Peep. The Rock carries decades of musical history. On this night, it added another memorable chapter with a stacked lineup and an incredible celebration of Eyes Set To Kill’s Broken Frames 15-year anniversary.
Headlining the evening, Eyes Set To Kill were joined by touring partners Lauren Babic and Stitched Up Heart, with local support from Hell Doubt and Pyrotechnica.
Opening the show was Tucson alternative rock outfit Pyrotechnica. A longtime staple of the local scene, the band has built a solid following over the years, and their fans always show up for them. Pyrotechnica delivered a tight, confident set that felt right at home in the venue. Opening with “For Love" and “Grey”, before doing a solid cover of HUNTR/X’s song “Takedown”. Being the first band on, left them with little time, but made it count with their last two solid songs for the evening, “Lose Control” and “Dynamite”. With the holidays in full swing, it’s also worth checking out their seasonal cover of “Last Christmas”, currently up on YouTube. Then on December 22nd, you can check back in on them for a new holiday cover song. If you are interested in something original and new, they will be releasing a new single and music video early 2026.
Next up was Hell Doubt, Tucson’s own heavy pop-punk/rock band, proudly repping the Dirty-T. Just days earlier on December 11th, the band dropped a new single titled “Apologies In Lead”, along with an accompanying video. Their set was energetic, fun, and engaging — as always. If you want to catch them again, they’ll be opening for Escape the Fate on January 17th at The Encore in Tucson. And remember: no matter how entertaining their set is, tradition demands you chant, “BOO HELL DOUBT! BOO HELL DOUBT!”
Landing perfectly in the middle of the lineup was Stitched Up Heart, who were honestly my main reason for covering the show. I last caught them on tour with Wednesday 13, and their musicianship completely blew me away then — and again here. Mixi’s vocals are both heavenly and powerful, effortlessly shifting between aggression and melody. Another standout is drummer Delaney, who, despite her young age, plays with a confidence and skill well beyond her years. It’s easy to see why the band brought her into the fold this year. Rounded out by Randy on bass and Grant on guitar, Stitched Up Heart opened their set with “To The Wolves.” Mixi came out swinging, embracing the song’s defiance while getting up close and personal with the crowd. A few songs later came “My Demon”, a fan favorite that dives into inner struggles — and judging by the sing-along, it clearly resonates with many. Another highlight was their brand-new single “SICK SICK SICK”, featuring Eyes Set To Kill and Lauren Babic. For the live performance, Alexia joined Mixi onstage, and the chemistry between the two sent the crowd into overdrive. They closed their set with the classic “Monster”, leaving me once again wishing I could catch them in a headlining slot someday.
Up next was Lauren Babic, whose set was slightly modified due to illness that had forced her to cancel the previous two tour stops in Las Vegas and Phoenix. When I told her I hoped she was feeling better, she admitted she wasn’t — but you never would’ve known once she hit the stage. Giving a full 110%, Babic powered through tracks like “Breathe You In”, “Ghost”, “Bloodbath”, and her always-fun heavy cover of Britney Spears’ “Toxic”, It’s not every day you see a pit open up to a Britney Spears song — but Tucson made it happen.
Finally, the moment everyone was waiting for: Eyes Set To Kill. Formed in 2003 in Tempe, Arizona, the band took the stage to celebrate the 15-year anniversary of their 2009 album Broken Frames. Their set included six tracks from the album, opening with “All You Ever Knew” and weaving in “Broken Frames”, “The Listening”, “Ticking Bombs”, “Falling Fast”, and “Inside the Eye”.
The rest of the set was packed with fan favorites, including “Break”, “Reach”, “Wilderness”, “Infected”, “Liar in the Glass”, and a crushing close with “Darling”. I’ll admit — I didn’t come into the night as an Eyes Set To Kill fan, being I had never listened to them prior to the show, and I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. I left realizing I’d denied myself years of incredible music and live performances. From Alexia (vocals/guitar) to her sister Anissa (bass), Caleb (drums), and Jeremy (guitar/unclean vocals), the band was flawless from start to finish.
This tour is nearing its end, with only a handful of dates left. If you can catch them now, do it. And if not, make sure you don’t miss them the next time they roll through your town. You won’t be disappointed.
